ELECTRONIC RESOURCES FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

SIBL's Elizabeth and Felix Rohatyn Electronic Information Center (EIC) provides access to over 150 electronic information databases. These resources cover business, science, government, industry and statistical information which can be used to assist and provide information for small businesses and entrepreneurs. Many of these resources are available at SIBL onsite only. The following is a list of the business information resources available at SIBL. Be sure to see our Small Business Resource Center and to speak with a librarian at the McGraw Desk on the lower level of the library for assistance and information about resources available for Small Businesses.

Academic Search Premier
Provides full text for 4,000 scholarly publications covering academic areas of study including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies.

Advertising Red Books Online
Directory. Includes information necessary for thorough advertising research on agencies and advertisers. The Agency Database contains detailed profiles of nearly 13,500 U.S. and international advertising agencies, including accounts represented by each agency, fields of specialization, breakdown of gross billings by media, and contact information on agency personnel.

American Film Scripts Online
Current edition includes 823 authorized versions of copyrighted screenplays, formatted in the conventional screenplay format. Also includes a bibliographic and biographic database of directors and writers. Search by character, scene, race, nationality, age, subject, and year of writing, as well as by author and title.

Bloomberg
The interactive network of Bloomberg Financial Markets offers up-to-date pricing information, history, data, analytics, and multimedia news. Find pricing and yields for stocks, bonds, mutual funds, economic statistics of global markets.

Business & Company Resource Center
Includes company profiles,executives, mergers & acquisitions,ticker symbols, news & magazine articles, company histories and chronologies, financials, balance sheets, financial ratios, rankings, suits & claims (for civil claims suits in the area of Human Resources only), products & brands, industry overviews and associations. Covers 1980- to present. Subjects covered include finance, acquisitions & mergers, international trade, money management, new technologies & products, local & regional business trends, investments and banking.

Provides information on over 1,600,000 international companies. Find specific companies, industries, and size new markets by using multiple selection criteria. Search or limit by SIC code, total employees, legal status, annual US sales dollar equivalent, and more, plus identify up to four (4) executives on the world's largest entities.

Dun & Bradstreet's Million Dollar Database
D&B Million Dollar Database provides information on over 1,500,000 US and Canadian leading public and private businesses. Company information includes industry information with up to 24 individual 8-digit SICs, size criteria (employees and annual sales), type of ownership, principal executives and biographies.

Dun & Bradstreet's Principal International Business CD-ROM
Information on the largest 450,000 companies outside the United States, based on total employee size, searchable by sales, SIC code, number of employees, zip code, area code, state, county, and city.

Market research information related to e-business, online marketing and emerging technologies. eMarketer aggregates and analyzes e-business research from over 1,700 sources and brings it together in one place. Research is presented in analyst reports and an "eStat Database" feature which is a comprehensive compilation of up-to-date e-business and online marketing statistics.

Emerging Markets - Internet Securities

Factiva (formerly Dow Jones Interactive)
Full-text and abstracting resource provides global content, including Dow Jones and Reuters newswires and The Wall Street Journal. Multilingual content covers 8,000 publications from 118 countries in 22 languages. Sources include business and industry publications, newspapers, trade journals, newswires, company reports, radio and television transcripts, and images.

Film Indexes Online
Includes Film Index International (British Film Institute) and the AFI Catalog (American Film Institute), covering all eras of filmmaking from the early silents to recent box-office hits. Provides information about the director, cast and crew, year of release and production. Credits, awards and a synopsis are also included. Person records include biographical information, a list of awards received, plus filmographies. References to film journals are also cited.

Film Literature Index
Film Literature Index (FLI) annually indexes 150 film and television periodicals from 30 countries cover-to-cover and 200 other scholarly and popular periodicals selectively for articles on film and television. More than 2,000 subject headings provide detailed analysis of the articles. The FLI Online contains approximately 700,000 citations to articles, film reviews and book reviews published between 1976-2001.

Galante's Venture Capital & Private Equity Directory

Hoover's
Directory. Provides company and industry information on 43,000 private and public companies, and 600 industries. Note: The vendor of this product does not permit downloading at the library- ONLY Print and view are enabled, and e-mailing of Hoovers records to an email address outside the library will not work. Although users can send email of records, the Hoover's data will not open unless the useer is in the library.

Investext Plus
Search investment analyst's reports on companies & industries from over 500 brokers in North America, Europe, Asia/Pacific, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Search by company, industry, or keyword.

Los Angeles Times (1881-1986)
Provides complete and searchable full-text and full-page images from the Los Angeles Times archive.

Information on more than 21,000 US and international companies, including 10,000 NYSE, AMEX and Nasdaq exchange companies. All SEC (EDGAR) filings and domestic and international annual reports are included.

Mighty Map
Real estate database for NYC buildings data. Provides information on buildings, lots, owners, tax liens, auctions, foreclosure sales, zoning, traffic counts, land use, subway locations, lis pendens, building permits, tax values, comparables, and more. Real estate brokers can check comparables, identify foreclosure sales and property auctions, and find developable property in the five boroughs. Comps (deed transactions) are updated monthly. Provides phone numbers of business and residential owner, including condos.

Morningstar Library Edition
Access Morningstar financial reports, screening, analyst reports and porfolio screening. Use the Help & Education link to access information about this database and online course modules on investing.

Nelson's Marketplace
Includes three directories: Nelson's Directory of Investment Managers which provides profiles of 2,000 institutional money managers and their 8,000 investment products. Company profiles may be saved individually in PDF format, printed, or saved to disk or USB flash drive. Also includes Nelson's Directory of Plan Sponsors and Nelson's Directory of Pension Fund Consultants- This database is not on all networked computers. OASIS
Access an interactive mapping system for New York City, supplemented by aerial photography, building and property data, environmental information, and data analysis tools.

Palgrave Dictionary of Economics
The online edition of The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics contains the full text of the 8 volume print edition. Reference USA
Provides addresses, sales information, executives, for over 11 million U.S. companies. Searchable by state, city, zip code, and SIC code and yellow page headings. Searches can be customized by company size, sales volume, geographic location, industry, etc. Many of the listing are for small businesses. Database also includes residential listings for phone numbers and addresses.

Regional Business News (formerly Business News Wire)
Provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. Business News Wire is now called "Regional Business News"

Small Business Resource Center
Covers major areas of starting and operating a business. Search and browse topics including sample business plans, how-to articles, overviews, and directories, including the Encylopedia of Business Information Sources, Encyclopedia of Management and Small Business Management, Consultant's and Consulting Organizations directory and more. Includes business books from John Wiley and over 200 business journals, including titles like: Better Asset Management, Black Enterprise, Consumer Comments, Cosmetics International, and more.

SourceOECD
SourceOECD is the online library of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. This library comprises 20 book collections by theme, containing all of the OECD monographs and reports, 24 periodicals, a reference title, and the OECD statistical databases.

TableBase
TableBase is a database comprised of tabular information of a strategic nature. The tables provide information such as: market share, market size, capacity, production, imports, exports, sales, product and brand rankings, forecasts, healthcare statistics and demographics. Tables are drawn from the more than 1000 sources that go into the Business & Industry database and from statistical annuals, brokerage reports, trade association reports, and governmental reports.

Textile Technology Index
Provides international coverage of the literature of textiles and related subjects Coverage includes the various aspects of textile production and processing, and the automation and management systems of these operations.
